Jason's Journey

Jason’s Journey is a short film by Upmo Connect, in collaboration with Lothian Buses, East Coast Buses and Edinburgh Leisure.
Jason, one of our students, makes a two-hour journey involving multiple buses, on a weekly basis for work experience at Upmo Eat, a bustling community café in Drumbrae. He has learned to do this independently – building life skills, resilience and confidence along the way.
He tells us why he enjoys travelling by bus and how he overcomes the challenges of independent travel. This video shines a light on inspiring role models, such as Jason, within the learning disability community, aiming to inspire and empower others. It serves as a valuable resource for individuals exploring independent travel and employability prospects.
I feel happy, really happy, the video might help people like me to travel independently. I’m so proud of myself, going out on the bus every Thursday, even in the winter. Watching myself in the video makes me feel like the face of Upmo and like I can help other students because getting the bus for the first time is a bit scary. Thank you very much to Upmo Connect, Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Leisure for making this happen. – Jason
